As far as I know, there are no real restrictions on the visa, except when changing the salary mid-term (I get a new
one starting from April). Even then, it is just red tape. I gather that the real issue seems to be about HR policies at
the MIT. If the salary gets unusually high for a research scientist, this may attract scrutinity from higher up.
Generally, it would be good if the Media Lab is convinced that funding will happen in the year afterwards, too,
because they won't extend my visa beyond the funded period. Applying for a new one takes a lot of jumping
through hoops, and also means flying the whole family to the consulate in Berlin.
