Welcome to the second issue of our Centers & Institutes newsletter! Georgetown Law’s Centers and Institutes have hit the ground running this fall following an active summer of intensive programming, training, convening, and publishing. Center for the Constitution
This past summer, the Center for the Constitution welcomed more than seventy-five students to its week-long seminar, “Originalism in Theory and Practice.” The week culminated in a visit to the United States Supreme Court with Justice Scalia and a roof-top reception at Jones Day.
In the coming semester, the Center has arranged a stellar lineup of events for our Student Fellows, which will feature debates and conversations with some of the best legal minds Georgetown Law has to offer. For more information on our upcoming events, please visit our website<http://georgetown.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=aaeb9e747e99132a02bf99535&id=f23ac70183&e=f3fe4d934f>!

Georgetown Climate Center
With the release of the Obama Administration’s final Clean Power Plan rule to cut carbon pollution from the power sector, it has been a busy summer and fall for the Georgetown Climate Center, which has become a leading resource on the plan. The Center has convened<http://georgetown.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=aaeb9e747e99132a02bf99535&id=ac655ad790&e=f3fe4d934f> and worked extensively with states on the issue and the final rule reflects ideas and approaches put forward in the Center's analysis and dialogues. Mitigation Program Manager Gabe Pacyniak met with President Obama immediately prior to the plan’s release and was joined by Executive Director Vicki Arroyo for the White House announcement on August 3rd. Since then, the Center has issued analysis and held briefings (video available)<http://georgetown.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=aaeb9e747e99132a02bf99535&id=1775404771&e=f3fe4d934f> for states about the new rule, and its staff have regularly been interviewed by media such as the Financial Times, Politico, Bloomberg News, Huffington Post, and PRI’s the World. The Center continues to serve as a resource to states on implementation. Our entire Clean Power team consists of Georgetown Law graduates, including Lissa Lynch who will be moving on to work on litigation for the Natural Resources Defense Council. Good luck, Lissa!

Among other media coverage, Vicki Arroyo recently released a Huffington Post blog<http://georgetown.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=aaeb9e747e99132a02bf99535&id=d01b403481&e=f3fe4d934f> about the report and the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Women's Law & Public Policy Fellowship Program
The Women’s Law & Public Policy Fellowship Program welcomes twelve new fellows to the Program. This year’s Leadership & Advocacy for Women in Africa Fellows come to Georgetown from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda and South Africa. In their previous capacities, the Fellows have served in a variety of positions, from United Nations Officers, members of the Judiciary, and providers of legal aid to individuals who have suffered human rights violations. This is the first year a LAWA has participated in the National Security LL.M. Program.
We are delighted to announce that beginning this Fellowship year, the Hillary Rodham Clinton Fellow at the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace & Security will also participate in WLPPFP. Our other placements this year include the National Women’s Law Center, the National Partnership for Women & Families, HIPS, the International Community of Women Living with HIV, and the Domestic Violence Clinic.
The Fellowship would like to thank the many faculty who made it to the WLPPFP Welcome Luncheon on September 29th. The Fellows were humbled by the support and encouragement of the Georgetown University Law Center community.
