Subject: Multiple Updates Today
First and foremost, please thank the boss for his generous bonus. I'll be sure to thank him in person, but I am
truly blown-away!
Apple released updates to the iPhone / iPad OS (iOS v9.2), OS X (El Capitan v10.11.2), WatchOS (v2.1) and
the new tvOS (v9.1) for the new AppleTVs. Most of these were bug fixes, but there are some notable
improvements as well:
iOS 9.2
Apple introduced new features into their News and Apple Music apps - I'm fairly sure Jeffrey uses neither —
as well as support for AT&T's new "NumberSync" service, which allows you to make phone calls over Wifi
with iPads & Macs over Wifi without the phone being nearby. I'm not sure that's anything anyone would
actually use, but it's there.
Also, the iPhones (v5 and newer) now support the Lightning to USB camera adapter for downloading photos
from a camera... Again, neat idea, but I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone ask for this. Most people use their
phones as their camera.
On a similar note, Apple added a new USB3.0 lightning to SD card camera reader for the iPad
Pro http://www.apple.corn/shop/product/MJYT2AM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader that allows you to
import photos from SD cards at super high speeds on the new iPad Pro — the other iOS devices don't have the
high-speed lightning port, it was new to the iPad Pro.
Finally, the built-in Mail.app on the iPhone & iPad now support Mail Drop. Mail Drop detects when
attachments are too large to be emailed and uploads them to iCloud, replacing the file in the email with a link to
download the attachment.

The boss is running this on his MacBook Pro and should update to this new update (I'll be happy to do it for
him when he's next in town). The update is mostly undeclared bug fixes, but it specifically promises wifi
reliability fixes.
WatchOS 2.1
This is mostly cosmetic bugfixes and new languages. You should update the watch (it requires updating her
phone to 9.2, opening the Watch app > General > Software Updates, and connecting the watch to it's charger
and will take 30 minutes or so).
tvOS 9.1
This added Siri search to the music app, and undisclosed bug fixes. It also slipped in support for iOS's Remote
App — which was sorely missing from the new AppleTV. Now iPads / iPhones will be able to control the new
AppleTVs like the Sin remote - only without the voice control. The only real reason to want this is that the
keyboard in the iOS remote app is worlds better than choosing one character at a time with the remote.
I configured all the new AppleTVs to automatically update themselves, so there shouldn't be anything for the
house managers to do. I might email them in a couple of days and suggest they confirm that they did actually
update.
