can I ask for a brief business advice? when you see an opportunity and want to invest in company and

I have one mentor who says: if investor sees the mountain ahead of him he'd turn opposite direction (an
entrepreneur would climb on it or dig a tunnel etc).
I'm a little confused what to do because I have a tendency to make people do what I want but it might
be not the best approach for an investor.
What do you think? Have you ever forced people to take your money?
