- Of course! - Just found our Sept correspondence with Robert....
re: your question: Is rhythm genetic?
- To the extent that bipedalism begets the universality of rhythms based on pairs of beats (e.g. 4/4 meter), and to
the extent that the requisite sequencing operations and recursion are also unique to the Homo genus by virtue of
our expanded anterior frontal cortex (often referred to using the malapropism "prefrontal cortex"). Whether
within-species genetic differences drive variability in aptitude for rhythm perception and production in dance,
drumming, etc. is unknown. There are monozygotic twin data that indicate aptitude for melody recognition has a
genetic basis.
re: reverse engineering music?
the relative densities of periodicities embedded in the human voice predict the relative densities of different
musical intervals in popular music.

Thank you for your email, Amber -
The timing for our Breakthroughs!/Closer To Truth PBS interview is ideal - those days overlap UCLA's
interquarter break. So I'm available 3/28 Thursday afternoon and evening as well as 3/29 Friday afternoon
and evening.

I recently shot an interview for a documentary about pianist John Bayless with a NYC filmmaker in the
Ostin Recording Studio at the Alpert School - it makes for a spectacular backdrop. I'm Ccing the studio
director, Luis Henao, here in the hope we might again find a time slot that's open.
If you have an outline of the questions or topics Dr Kuhn and I will be discussing and some information
about the goals of the program and the other interviewees, I'd be most appreciative if you could send them
along.
Looking forward to meeting you and seeing Dr Kuhn again soon!
Best,
Mark

Dear Dr. Tramo,
I'm coordinating the logistics for the upcoming interviews for Breakthroughs!/Closer To Truth.
We will be filming interviews in Los Angeles March 25 - 29, 2019. Mr. Kuhn forwarded your email that
indicated that your primary availability is for March 29th. Do you have a preference for morning or
afternoon?
We're working with UCLA to try to secure locations at the Herb Alpert School of Music for your
interview, but I'll confirm exact location and time soon.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Amber
