[00:00:00] I don't want us to simply duplicate the [00:00:02] behavior of the other side. I I I don't [00:00:05] want us to have a slash and burn [00:00:07] strategy where we don't care about rule [00:00:09] of law. We don't care about some of the [00:00:12] guard rails around our democracy. We [00:00:14] start lying and and and having no regard [00:00:17] for the truth the way the other side [00:00:20] seems to be comfortable with right now. [00:00:22] Uh because if if if that's how we fight, [00:00:25] then we lose what we're fighting for. [00:00:28] But that doesn't mean we have to get [00:00:31] punked or or be saps and I do and or or [00:00:35] to to cling to traditions just for the [00:00:38] sake of tradition. I think what we have [00:00:40] to continually [00:00:42] uh [00:00:44] evaluate is in this moment in time, how [00:00:47] do we make sure that we can advance [00:00:52] our agenda in a way that reflects [00:00:56] what's good for ordinary folks, not [00:01:00] special interests, not simply the [00:01:02] wellto-d do. And how do we do that in a [00:01:06] way that's consistent with integrity, [00:01:08] honesty, [00:01:10] democracy, [00:01:11] uh the values that we claim to want to [00:01:14] uphold. And and I think it's possible to [00:01:16] do that. But but I I the reason I [00:01:20] started with reminding ourselves, yes, [00:01:22] we have a a harder job. Uh because [00:01:25] sometimes I think we're tough on [00:01:26] Democrats saying, why aren't you being [00:01:29] as mean and tough and nasty as they are? [00:01:32] Well, you know, it's it's uh you know, [00:01:35] when I was president of the United [00:01:37] States, [00:01:38] I suppose I could have simply [00:01:43] uh unilaterally ordered [laughter] the [00:01:48] military to, you know, go into some red [00:01:52] state and Yeah. and uh harass and [00:01:55] intimidate a governor there or cut off [00:01:58] funding for [00:02:00] uh states that didn't vote for me. I I [00:02:03] could have exercised that prerogative, [00:02:06] but that is contrary to how I think our [00:02:09] democracy is supposed to work. And and [00:02:11] and I think we shouldn't get discouraged [00:02:15] by the fact that we have a tougher job. [00:02:17] We should what we should do is expect [00:02:19] that uh um [clears throat] [00:02:22] our side [00:02:25] is smart enough to figure it
