[00:00:28] everyone welcome to our special live [00:00:30] broadcast from war in politics Studio [00:00:32] Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th [00:00:36] president of the United States in the [00:00:37] ceremony held in the United States [00:00:39] capital golden age of America begins [00:00:42] right now Trump said this inauguration [00:00:44] marks the beginning of a new chapter in [00:00:47] American politics one that has spk [00:00:50] conversations and debates around the [00:00:52] world from the street of Washington DC [00:00:54] to homes across the globe all eyes are [00:00:56] on this significant event Kine gypson [00:01:00] rep reporter for voice of America's News [00:01:03] Center in Washington DC with us today [00:01:04] Kine glad to see you again and thank you [00:01:07] for joining [00:01:08] us very good to be with you thank you [00:01:11] for having me Kine did President Trump [00:01:14] deliver any notable speeches or remarks [00:01:16] during the event what were the key [00:01:18] moments from Donald Trump's immigration [00:01:22] ceremony absolutely so as is traditional [00:01:25] for any US president taking the oath [00:01:27] oath of office it's immediately followed [00:01:29] by the president's inaugural address and [00:01:32] we heard from president Trump that he is [00:01:34] going to make America great again and [00:01:36] bring back a golden age of America he [00:01:39] went into some of the specifics but not [00:01:41] all of them notably saying that he would [00:01:43] put America first on the world stage [00:01:45] that he would sign a number of [00:01:47] immigration executive orders as early as [00:01:50] within the next few hours he also called [00:01:52] for the US government to only recognize [00:01:54] two genders male and female he also went [00:01:58] into detail about how he would love to [00:02:00] see America feel that spirit and bring [00:02:03] back a bring us out of an age of decline [00:02:06] that he feels happened during the [00:02:08] presidency of Joe Biden so a very [00:02:11] hopeful uplifting speech from president [00:02:13] Trump today he's also greeted supporters [00:02:16] who are waiting to see him at the US [00:02:18] capital before moving on for his [00:02:20] inaugural parade at an arena in downtown [00:02:23] Washington DC Kine did Trump say [00:02:26] anything about [00:02:28] Ukraine he mostly focused on domestic [00:02:31] policy as many US presidents do during [00:02:34] their campaigns and in their inaugural [00:02:37] speeches he mostly emphasized that idea [00:02:40] of America First and I've heard it in [00:02:42] some of the cabinet confirmation [00:02:44] hearings from his nominees who have been [00:02:46] up on Capitol Hill already talking to US [00:02:49] senators who will pass through their [00:02:51] confirmations they've said that we need [00:02:54] to put America first again so that we [00:02:56] can have greater standing on the world [00:02:58] stage so no no specific mentions of [00:03:01] Ukraine yet but we do expect that [00:03:04] President Trump will follow through on [00:03:06] one of his campaign promises to end the [00:03:08] war in Ukraine as soon as possible Kine [00:03:12] president Donald Trump casted himself as [00:03:14] a peacemaker in his um inagural address [00:03:19] but immediately WOTE that the United [00:03:22] States that United States would be [00:03:24] taking back the Panama Canal how [00:03:26] Americans consider these [00:03:28] words well it's it's certainly an [00:03:30] interesting proposal it's something that [00:03:33] probably doesn't come up in the minds of [00:03:35] a lot of Americans it's not something [00:03:38] that was commonly discussed here it [00:03:41] hasn't really been in the common [00:03:42] discussion since back in the [00:03:44] 1970s but it is part of this broader [00:03:47] point of view that Trump has that [00:03:49] America needs to reassert itself on the [00:03:51] global stage we've also heard some talk [00:03:54] from him about getting Greenland you [00:03:56] know going up against China in terms of [00:03:59] Str a competition so when you step back [00:04:02] and look at it in that context it's all [00:04:04] part of the broader push to make America [00:04:07] First Karan also what kind of public [00:04:11] reaction are you observing among Trump [00:04:13] supporters and also [00:04:16] opponents yeah so unfortunately because [00:04:19] of the extreme cold temperatures here in [00:04:21] Washington DC that entire in [00:04:24] inauguration ceremony did have to be [00:04:26] moved inside and that I can tell you [00:04:28] having been up on the our rooftop [00:04:30] earlier this morning was absolutely the [00:04:32] right decision it isn't extremely cold [00:04:35] here in Washington DC so a lot of his [00:04:38] supporters who came from all around the [00:04:40] country to see him and participate in [00:04:42] that ceremony were not able to they even [00:04:45] took down some of the Jumbotron screens [00:04:47] that are usually on the National Mall to [00:04:50] make sure that people wouldn't stand out [00:04:52] in this extreme cold but they're telling [00:04:54] some of our other vaa reporters that [00:04:57] even though they traveled very long [00:04:59] distances they're still happy to be a [00:05:01] part of this inauguration day and [00:05:02] they're still trying to make the best of [00:05:04] it walking around DC and enjoying it [00:05:06] still Kine can we remember how did the [00:05:09] American public view Trump's presidency [00:05:11] at the start of his term and now to [00:05:16] compare right well you may remember the [00:05:19] day after Trump's first inauguration the [00:05:21] women's March was held here in [00:05:23] Washington DC which was a massive event [00:05:26] on the part of women and their [00:05:27] supporters everywhere to push back [00:05:30] against some of the statements that [00:05:31] Donald Trump had made during that first [00:05:33] campaign I covered that March and It [00:05:36] ultimately resulted in the formation of [00:05:38] a lot of political activist groups here [00:05:41] in the United States that helped fuel [00:05:43] the Blue Wave the so-called Blue Wave [00:05:46] that flipped the US Congress to [00:05:48] democratic control two years later so [00:05:51] there was a lot of a ground swell of [00:05:54] public opinion to kind of push back [00:05:56] against that first Trump presidency we [00:05:59] don't know what that's going to be like [00:06:01] this time around because we're only you [00:06:02] know two hours into the second Trump [00:06:05] term we are hearing some reports that he [00:06:07] make conduct immigration raids we are [00:06:09] hearing something about immigration [00:06:11] executive orders that he is going to be [00:06:13] signing in the next few hours once those [00:06:16] come in then we'll start to see some [00:06:18] reaction from Democrats in Congress and [00:06:21] Across the Nation we'll know a little [00:06:23] bit more about how that that you know [00:06:26] opposition to the Trump presidency is [00:06:28] going to shake out Kine also I saw that [00:06:31] at the end of Trump's speech there was a [00:06:34] technical malfunction causing the whole [00:06:37] to remain in silence for nearly a minute [00:06:39] what's happened maybe you [00:06:42] know oh well I think you need to [00:06:44] remember that this is a massive ceremony [00:06:47] with an incredible amount of logistical [00:06:49] detail and the fact that they made this [00:06:52] decision only a few days before to move [00:06:55] it indoors is still very impressive it [00:06:58] was on the part of a by partisan [00:07:00] Inaugural Committee that plans these [00:07:02] things for many many months to make sure [00:07:05] that it all goes off without a hitch and [00:07:07] ultimately the singers were able to sing [00:07:10] Kine Trump expected to sign record [00:07:13] number of executive orders on Monday [00:07:15] what topics will the executive order [00:07:17] stum signs address maybe also you [00:07:20] know right so in his speech he himself [00:07:23] said that he would be addressing the [00:07:25] issue of immigration so we're waiting to [00:07:27] see what's happening with that he's [00:07:29] still is not M or as we're speaking he's [00:07:32] making his way out of the US capital or [00:07:34] making his way to sign those executive [00:07:36] orders so we should be hearing about [00:07:38] them shortly Kine thank you so much for [00:07:42] all information from Washington Kine [00:07:44] jibson repor for uh voice of America's [00:07:47] News Center in Washington DC with us [00:07:49] today was with us today Kine I wish you [00:07:52] all the best and see you thank you so [00:07:55] much you're so welcome good to be with [00:07:58] you thank you [00:08:01] right
