[00:00:00] the documents that make up what we call [00:00:02] first Enoch are trying to extrapolate [00:00:03] [music] [00:00:04] on is what's going on before the flood. [00:00:07] So you have in Genesis chapter [music] 6 [00:00:10] this very cryptic passage of the sons of [00:00:13] God saw that the daughters of men were [00:00:15] beautiful and they came and they slept [00:00:16] with them. [music] These women gave [00:00:18] birth to these children that were the [00:00:20] Nephilim. [00:00:24] The Greek translation [music] of the Old [00:00:26] Testament translates Nephilim as gigas [00:00:28] which is giants. [00:00:32] [music] [00:00:36] What were the Nephilim [music] and how [00:00:37] did this come into being? And so it kind [00:00:39] of does this through a narrative about [00:00:41] the great-grandfather [music] of Noah, [00:00:43] Enoch. [00:00:45] You know, the demons kind of show up [00:00:47] [music] in the New Testament. There [00:00:48] really isn't all that much said in the [00:00:49] Old Testament about demons. So the [00:00:51] Nephilim, if you're taking a [00:00:53] supernatural [music] [00:00:55] understanding of who they are, their [00:00:56] fathers are angels. [00:01:01] In some of this ancient Jewish [00:01:04] literature that's incorporated and found [00:01:05] in the Dead [music] Sea Scrolls, we have [00:01:07] some of these discussions of things [00:01:09] like, "What are the demons?" Well, there [00:01:12] was a pretty [music] [00:01:13] strong thread of thinking within ancient [00:01:16] Judaism that demons were disembodied [00:01:19] spirits of the Nephilim [00:01:26] and their mothers are humans. So, [00:01:29] they're kind of these half supernatural, [00:01:31] half [music] carnal things. So, when [00:01:33] they die, their spirits don't have [00:01:35] anywhere to go. [00:01:41] So now they're trapped and they're [00:01:42] wandering the earth. They're aimless and [00:01:44] they're constantly trying to get back [00:01:45] into a a physical form. [music] And so [00:01:49] they possess people [00:01:53] and because they're [music] not really [00:01:55] meant to do that because they're these [00:01:57] wayward supernatural [music] beings, it [00:01:59] never really works out and they end up [00:02:01] making people do all sorts of crazy [00:02:03] things and they're [music] they're [00:02:06] cursed because they're unholy. They're [00:02:09] the the [music] progeny of fallen [00:02:11] angels. [00:02:16] What do you think about that? [00:02:18] >> I think on [music] things that scripture [00:02:20] whispers about, I don't want to yell too [00:02:22] loudly. [00:02:24] [music] [00:02:27] What he does is he finds all the [00:02:29] commonalities of these near-death [00:02:32] experiences [music] and relates them all [00:02:33] to Christ. In his studies, sometimes he [00:02:36] talks about [music] [00:02:37] people will go to hell and they'll have [00:02:39] a hellish near-death experience. [music] [00:02:49] Jesus is there basically saying, "Do you [00:02:51] accept me as Lord [music] and Savior?" [00:02:53] Yes. Boom. Out of hell into heaven. If [00:02:55] you can go through life not being a [00:02:57] Christian, lie, cheat, steal, kill, [00:03:00] adultery, what? Break every one of the [00:03:02] ten commandments all the time [00:03:04] >> and then you die. [00:03:09] >> [music] [00:03:15] >> and you are in hell, but you still have [00:03:17] that one last chance that says, "Hey, do [00:03:20] you accept me as Lord and Savior?" Yes. [00:03:23] Then what what is the point? [00:03:26] [music] [00:03:34] >> [music] [00:03:35] >> I I think the fact that we understand [00:03:37] that evil is something speaks to the [00:03:40] fact that there is an objective evil. To [00:03:42] be outbalanced by an objective good. [00:03:44] There's this understanding that if you [00:03:46] subjectivize evil, to say that we need [00:03:49] to stop them is actually admitting that [00:03:51] there's some sort of moral law. [00:03:54] I talked to a lot of people who almost [00:03:57] assume that taking God out of the [00:03:58] picture solves the problem. And I think [00:03:59] it actually makes it more complicated. [00:04:01] It makes it more complicated because now [00:04:03] [music] you're you've removed the [00:04:05] objective standard by which to actually [00:04:06] say something is truly objectively evil. [00:04:13] Theologians sometimes describe it as [00:04:14] being found in the first Adam or the [00:04:16] second Adam. So Jesus [music] is [00:04:17] described as the second Adam in [00:04:19] scripture. And the idea is you're either [00:04:23] going to be found in your sin and you're [00:04:25] [music] going to take the brunt of that [00:04:28] or you're going to be found in the [00:04:30] covering of Christ. And he's taken the [00:04:34] brunt of that. [00:04:36] You know, what we do actually [music] [00:04:37] does matter. We're not saved by our [00:04:40] works, but we're saved for works. What [00:04:43] do you think happens when we die? What [00:04:44] [music] when when you think of heaven, [00:04:46] what does your imagination, what does [00:04:48] your faith tell you? Where where is it? [00:04:50] What do we see? What where are we going? [00:04:52] >> Mhm. Well, Paul says it is appointed uh [00:04:55] people once to die and then the [00:04:57] judgment. [00:04:58] [music] [00:04:59] >> What are some of the things in there [00:05:00] that you thought were hard to find? [00:05:02] True. [00:05:03] [music] [00:05:05] >> Goes beyond an intellectual question. [00:05:07] It's a it's a personal question. There's [00:05:09] a ripple effect that we often don't [00:05:11] realize how our lives [music] actually [00:05:13] impact others. It's always talking about [00:05:16] hand over your problems to me. hand them [00:05:18] over to me. All the you're worried [00:05:20] about, hand it over to me. I'll take [00:05:22] care of it. And I was I just I just I [00:05:24] don't understand what that means. [00:05:26] [music] [00:05:31] [music]
