[00:00:00] us now. South Carolina Senator Lindsey
[00:00:02] Graham. I'm exhausted watching it.
[00:00:05] [laughter]
[00:00:06] You ought to be here.
[00:00:09] >> Yeah. Well, we you know, we got it done
[00:00:11] and John Federman's coming on next. He
[00:00:14] He's a good man. So, about 41 days ago,
[00:00:17] Democrats told every Republican, "We're
[00:00:20] going to shut the government down unless
[00:00:21] you do two things. repeal the $1.5
[00:00:24] trillion in savings from the big
[00:00:26] beautiful bill by making Medicaid more
[00:00:29] affordable and eliminating illegal
[00:00:32] immigrants from having Medicaid. That
[00:00:34] saved 1.5 trillion, no more federal
[00:00:38] healthc care for illegal immigrants.
[00:00:39] They wanted to set that aside and they
[00:00:42] wanted us to extend Obamacare the way it
[00:00:44] is today where all the subsidies, $50
[00:00:47] billion, go to insurance companies.
[00:00:49] They're getting filthy rich and premiums
[00:00:52] have doubled. They wanted us to continue
[00:00:54] that. There's 190,000 people on
[00:00:56] Obamacare that don't even know they were
[00:00:59] on it until they got a call. So, this
[00:01:01] thing is a scam. We held firm and we're
[00:01:05] going to deal with healthcare in
[00:01:06] December. And when President Trump said
[00:01:08] two days ago, three days ago, I'm going
[00:01:10] to stop the all the money going to
[00:01:13] insurance companies, I'm going to send
[00:01:15] it to you, the public, that changed
[00:01:17] everything.
[00:01:19] Okay, this this is important. You know,
[00:01:21] my friend Mark Simone, I'll quote him
[00:01:23] again, he said it's called the
[00:01:24] Affordable Care Act. The promise was
[00:01:26] keep your doctor, keep your plan, and
[00:01:28] the average family saves $2,500 a year.
[00:01:30] Okay, millions lost their doctors,
[00:01:32] millions lost their plans. Okay, average
[00:01:35] person paying anywhere between 220 and
[00:01:38] 300% more. Uh, you have 40% of the
[00:01:41] country has one Obamacare exchange
[00:01:43] option. Can you explain how the
[00:01:45] Affordable Care Act needs to be
[00:01:47] subsidized? I thought it was affordable
[00:01:50] by its very definition.
[00:01:51] >> They want $350 billion over 10 years to
[00:01:55] keep it afloat. It is growing faster
[00:01:57] than private se sector healthcare. They
[00:02:00] get insurance companies get paid for
[00:02:02] everybody they sign up. They've had
[00:02:05] hundreds of thousands of people that
[00:02:07] have never made a claim. So, insurance
[00:02:09] companies get more money when they sign
[00:02:11] people up. They could care less about
[00:02:13] quality. It was said to save us money as
[00:02:17] consumers. It's over doubled in terms of
[00:02:19] premiums. And insurance companies, the
[00:02:22] largest seven in the country, have had
[00:02:25] their stock prices since 2010 go up
[00:02:28] between 500 and a,000%.
[00:02:31] Donald Trump said Saturday that gravy
[00:02:34] train is over. I'm going to take this
[00:02:36] money and give it to the consumer so
[00:02:38] they can buy better health care and take
[00:02:40] it away from the insurance company.
[00:02:42] We're going to win that fight in
[00:02:43] December. But we stood up and we broke
[00:02:46] them. They wanted things bad for the
[00:02:48] American people. We stood up to them and
[00:02:51] we broke them. And you had eight
[00:02:52] senators like Senator Federman who put
[00:02:55] the country ahead of party. And I cannot
[00:02:58] thank him and the other seven enough.
[00:03:00] They did the country a great service.
[00:03:03] Well, I mean, I've never really been too
[00:03:06] a gasast at government shutdowns, but
[00:03:08] they've never gone on this long. I mean,
[00:03:10] you see what's happening at airports
[00:03:11] around the country. I mean, it probably
[00:03:14] it'll take us to Thanksgiving to get
[00:03:16] the, you know, air traffic control
[00:03:18] system back up and running and
[00:03:19] efficient. Uh, even though we started
[00:03:21] out down when Trump came into office
[00:03:24] this time, down about 2 or 3,000 air
[00:03:26] traffic controllers and equipment from
[00:03:28] the 1950s and60s. That's a big deal.
[00:03:30] Back to healthare, there are creative,
[00:03:33] smart, free market options that for
[00:03:36] example, medical savings accounts,
[00:03:38] health care cooperatives. I have a guy I
[00:03:40] know, Dr. Josh Umber, uh, Witchah,
[00:03:43] Kansas. 50 bucks a month for an adult.
[00:03:46] Uh, 10 bucks for every kid, unlimited
[00:03:48] care, 24-hour availability to a doctor.
[00:03:51] You get prescription medicines because
[00:03:53] he negotiated with the pharmaceutical
[00:03:54] companies himself. Now that's going, you
[00:03:57] know, mainstream. healthc care
[00:03:59] cooperatives, tele medicine is going to
[00:04:01] save a fortune. Uh you add catastrophic
[00:04:04] care, especially for young people. Okay,
[00:04:06] you're covered for the small stuff.
[00:04:08] You're covered for, you know, one
[00:04:10] appointment a year. But if you have a
[00:04:11] bad accident, heart attack, stroke,
[00:04:13] you're also covered because, you know,
[00:04:15] after a certain small deductible,
[00:04:17] whatever you can afford, you know,
[00:04:19] you'll be covered for all those things.
[00:04:20] That's a lot cheaper.
[00:04:22] >> All the above. We're going to try to
[00:04:24] create options that don't exist today.
[00:04:26] Since 2010, the largest health insurance
[00:04:29] companies in this country have literally
[00:04:32] made a fortune. Their stock prices have
[00:04:34] skyrocketed over a,000% increase.
[00:04:38] Compare that to the rest of the economy.
[00:04:40] And the premiums under Obamacare have
[00:04:42] over doubled. So, I hope we can sit down
[00:04:45] with people like Senator Federman and
[00:04:47] see if we can interject into the system
[00:04:49] more choice, more competition, take the
[00:04:52] money away from the insurance companies,
[00:04:54] flow it to the people, giving them
[00:04:56] options they don't have today to lower
[00:04:58] cost and improve quality. That is the
[00:05:00] goal, not to throw people off health
[00:05:03] care, but to get health care that works,
[00:05:05] that's affordable.
[00:05:07] >> Yeah. Let me ask you about Chuck
[00:05:09] Schumer. Is he finished? [gasps]
[00:05:12] >> Probably. Uh this is not a Chuck Schumer
[00:05:14] problem. This is a problem with the
[00:05:16] Democratic party. Look at Senator
[00:05:18] Fedman.
[00:05:19] >> Why is it not his problem? There's his
[00:05:21] whole career.
[00:05:22] >> Right. Well, he's just reacting to where
[00:05:24] the party is, right? Well, that's where
[00:05:26] the party's
[00:05:28] reacting to where the party is. He's
[00:05:29] reacting. He wants to cling on to power.
[00:05:32] >> Yeah, that's right. He wants to keep his
[00:05:33] job, but he's not the first politician
[00:05:35] to do that. You know, we shut down the
[00:05:37] third the government for 35 days to
[00:05:39] build a wall. We eventually got the wall
[00:05:40] built because it's good policy. So don't
[00:05:43] shut the government down to change
[00:05:44] policy. Senator Schumer is probably
[00:05:47] toast. He's probably can't survive in
[00:05:50] this environment. The question is, can
[00:05:52] Senator Federman I think Senator
[00:05:54] Federman has got a hell of a story to
[00:05:56] tell to the people of Pennsylvania. I've
[00:05:58] been up here doing the best I can. And I
[00:06:00] think people are looking for that kind
[00:06:02] of attitude, not the Schumer attitude.
[00:06:04] They're looking for people to say, "I
[00:06:06] will listen to both sides and I'll use
[00:06:08] my own judgment, not be told what to
[00:06:10] do." Uh, all I can say is that we held
[00:06:12] our ground. The government is open.
[00:06:14] We're going to have a healthy debate
[00:06:15] about healthcare. And there's one person
[00:06:18] that had a lot to do with this. We've
[00:06:20] never talked about much, and that's
[00:06:21] Donald J. Trump. The day he got involved
[00:06:23] saying, "I got a better idea on
[00:06:25] healthcare." It changed everything. Stay
[00:06:27] tuned for his ideas on healthcare.
[00:06:30] >> All right, Lindsey Graham, Senator,
[00:06:31] thank you. We appreciate your time
[00:06:33] joining
