[00:00:00] John Garrett.
[00:00:01] >> Um, on Iran, I'm not asking you for like
[00:00:03] military secrets here, but can
[00:00:04] [laughter]
[00:00:05] you can you share
[00:00:08] >> unless you want to give up, can you
[00:00:10] share a little bit about the president's
[00:00:12] thinking on whether or not to strike
[00:00:13] Iran, who he's talking to, what
[00:00:15] information he's consuming, and why a
[00:00:17] strike might be necessary on a nuclear
[00:00:19] program he says was obliterated by the
[00:00:22] last US strike. Well, there's many
[00:00:24] reasons and arguments that one could
[00:00:26] make uh for a strike against the uh
[00:00:28] against Iran. Uh the president had a
[00:00:31] very successful operation as
[00:00:33] commander-in-chief with Operation
[00:00:35] Midnight Hammer. As you know, as you
[00:00:36] just said, uh totally obliterated Iran's
[00:00:39] nuclear facilities. Um the president has
[00:00:42] always been very clear though with
[00:00:43] respect to Iran or any country around
[00:00:44] the world. Diplomacy is always his first
[00:00:46] option and Iran would be very wise to
[00:00:49] make a deal with President Trump and
[00:00:51] with this administration. Uh he's
[00:00:53] talking to many people of course his
[00:00:55] national security team first and
[00:00:57] foremost. Uh and you know who the
[00:00:59] members of that team are. Uh and this is
[00:01:01] something obviously the president takes
[00:01:03] seriously. He's always thinking about
[00:01:04] what's in the best interest of the
[00:01:06] United States of America, of our
[00:01:07] military, of the American people. Um and
[00:01:10] that's how he makes decisions with
[00:01:11] respect to military action of any kind.
[00:01:13] And on the flip side of that, he's got
[00:01:15] the State of the Union speech next week.
[00:01:16] If he is going to take military action,
[00:01:18] does the administration believe it's
[00:01:20] important to sort of convince the
[00:01:22] American people, sell the American
[00:01:23] people, will we hear something about
[00:01:24] that in the State of the Union to make
[00:01:26] the case for why something like that
[00:01:27] might be necessary to risk American
[00:01:29] lives?
[00:01:29] >> Look, again, I'm not going to engage in
[00:01:31] a hypothetical. Good try, Garrett. But I
[00:01:33] you can't catch me there. I will say
[00:01:35] with respect to the State of the Union,
[00:01:36] you'll be hearing more about what is to
[00:01:38] come from the president's speech very
[00:01:39] soon at the appropriate time. It is
[00:01:41] going to be a very good and powerful
[00:01:44] speech. So, everyone should tune in.
