[00:00:05] [applause]
[00:00:08] Thank you. Thank you, Mrs. Hardik,
[00:00:11] Secretary Bunch.
[00:00:13] Good afternoon.
[00:00:15] Thank you for inviting me to join you at
[00:00:18] the Smithsonian today. The Smithsonian
[00:00:21] Museum is an important cultural jewel.
[00:00:26] It is my great honor to be surrounded by
[00:00:29] so many special people to celebrate this
[00:00:32] moment occasion.
[00:00:35] Human nature resides in the discipline
[00:00:38] of detail. Everything is in the detail.
[00:00:43] This is not a dress.
[00:00:46] This is more than 50 years of education,
[00:00:50] experience and wisdom realized with each
[00:00:54] thread, each stitch, each sharp edge.
[00:00:59] The meticulously foreign black shape Z
[00:01:03] on the front bodies comments decades of
[00:01:06] my early memories,
[00:01:09] life experiences
[00:01:12] and influences
[00:01:14] and all of these stories attacked deep
[00:01:18] within its crisp strong seams forever.
[00:01:25] Mr. Her vapier's sophisticated knowledge
[00:01:28] of couture design has solidified his
[00:01:31] position as a fearlessly independent
[00:01:34] visionary. Thank you, Herway.
[00:01:38] Harry Winston, one of America's most
[00:01:40] consequential jewelers, designed the
[00:01:44] diamond brooch in 1955.
[00:01:49] Mr. Winston's headline grabbing historic
[00:01:51] piece was loan to me especially for the
[00:01:55] inauguration.
[00:01:57] The minimal black neck piece frame the
[00:02:00] radiant flora diamond cluster creating
[00:02:03] harmony with my overall look.
[00:02:07] The beautiful contrast between black and
[00:02:09] white sets a mood rich with emotion.
[00:02:13] American imagination appears in
[00:02:16] different creative forums across all
[00:02:19] types of canvases and often serves up a
[00:02:23] clear perspective.
[00:02:26] This dress speaks with a distinct point
[00:02:29] of view, a modern silhouette, bold and
[00:02:33] dignified and ruthlessly chic.
[00:02:38] It is not easy fit to construct such a
[00:02:42] complex garment. Behind every true
[00:02:45] couture piece stands a superior team of
[00:02:48] pattern makers, seamstresses, and
[00:02:52] artisans who transform a creative idea
[00:02:55] into reality.
[00:02:57] My team of experts who constructed this
[00:03:01] gown and have obsessed to master their
[00:03:04] discipline. I'm proud to collaborate
[00:03:07] with each of them.
[00:03:11] The human condition is captured within
[00:03:14] every stitch. The idea to endure and
[00:03:17] rise above mediocracy to reach the
[00:03:20] highest level, America's destiny.
[00:03:25] This black and white masterpiece
[00:03:27] showcases America's pure spirit of
[00:03:30] originality,
[00:03:31] superior engineering,
[00:03:34] and boundless creativity.
[00:03:36] It's a statement as to why America's
[00:03:39] fashion industry can lead the rest of
[00:03:42] the world.
[00:03:45] Personally, I relish the entire design
[00:03:48] process from start to finish. It takes a
[00:03:52] time. It's slow.
[00:03:54] But the end result is always magical.
[00:03:59] If you had a chance to see my new film,
[00:04:01] Melania, you are well aware of what it
[00:04:04] took to bring this technical marvel to
[00:04:07] life.
[00:04:10] We must take pride not only in the small
[00:04:13] rituals of self-care, but in the
[00:04:16] courageous act of self-expression,
[00:04:19] our outward appearance to the world.
[00:04:24] The art of presenting oneself can be
[00:04:27] cultivated over a lifetime. Yet even the
[00:04:30] young girl who can who takes care of
[00:04:33] herself from inside out with precision
[00:04:37] every morning lives for school with a
[00:04:40] more confident step and a steady gaze,
[00:04:44] confident to claim her place in the
[00:04:47] world.
[00:04:48] This speak spark pays dividends and
[00:04:52] stays with her for a lifetime.
[00:04:55] I'm honored to have our creative vision
[00:04:58] on display here once again within the
[00:05:02] walls of this institution
[00:05:04] indefinitely. Thank you.
[00:05:09] [applause]
[00:05:16] Thank you so much, Mrs. Trump for those
[00:05:18] beautiful words
[00:05:21] for all of the press corps
[00:05:27] and to all of you. The poetry of your
[00:05:30] expression matches the poetry of the
[00:05:32] dress. Uh and thank you so much too for
[00:05:35] mentioning the beautiful Harry Winston
[00:05:37] uh brooch. This stunning replica reminds
[00:05:41] us of 1955 when President Eisenhower
[00:05:44] commissioned the construction of this
[00:05:46] museum. So, a beautiful echo in time.
[00:05:50] Thank you all so, so much for joining
[00:05:52] us. This is a beloved and cherished
[00:05:54] tradition. And Mrs. Trump, it's such an
[00:05:57] honor to have you back. Please come
[00:05:59] often. Um, visit your dress. Um, it will
[00:06:04] miss you when you're gone. Um so and
[00:06:07] thanks to each and every one of you. Uh
[00:06:09] to everyone who made this event
[00:06:11] possible. You're participating in a
[00:06:13] beautiful river of tradition more than a
[00:06:15] century old. We will care for this
[00:06:17] dress. Um and the beautiful brooch and
[00:06:20] the beautiful ribbon. Um as long as the
[00:06:24] Smithsonian exists, as we like to say,
[00:06:26] we're in the forever business. So when
[00:06:30] the gallery reopens to the public, our
[00:06:32] millions of visitors each year from
[00:06:34] around the United States and the world
[00:06:36] will share in the special moment that we
[00:06:38] were so blessed to have today. So now we
[00:06:41] will take a few photographs with Mrs.
[00:06:43] Trump, the beautiful dress, and the
[00:06:45] Secretary Bunch.
[00:06:50] [applause]
[00:07:09] One, two, three.
[00:07:46] Never mind.
[00:07:55] >> [applause]
