Randy Grovenstien, Andrew Malluck John Louis, Michael Brinley From: Charles Roberts, II Job #AC-08-45 FS-A/V-08-45 Subject: Cabin Noise Survey Results on G550, Serial Number 5176 Attachments: Detailed Cabin Noise Results Introduction A cabin noise survey was conducted on 19 March 2008 on G550 s/n 5176 by GAC's Acoustics & Vibration group. This aircraft is owned by Cristen Limited EACE and was outfitted at GAC's completion center in Appleton. WI. Test Item The test item is a completed 6550 with a custom interior that includes a forward galley and an enhanced acoustics package. The aircraft has an aft and a forward lavatory. The passenger cabin has 18 seats, including club seating with a forward divan for six at Windows 3 and 4. standard club seating for four at Windows 5 and 6, and private double aft divans at Window 7 and aft. A standard pocket door is separating the vestibule and passenger cabin. A second pocket door was located between Windows 6 and 7 separating the forward and aft passenger cabins. An ultraleather material was used for the headliner, and PSU's. A leather material was used for the cabin seats, and a decorative fabric was used to cover the dado panels and window panels. The divan was covered is a cloth finish. Cabin Noise Metrics SIL's are the speech interference levels measured in decibels. defined as the arithmetic average of the un-weighted 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 4000 Hz octave band sound pressure levels. The dB(A) levels are the summation of sound pressure over all frequencies after the W weighting is applied. The reference level is 20 pPa. Engine/Aircraft Settings The aircraft was operated in normal, level flight at 45,000 feet, 0.80 Mach. An doors and gaspers were closed. During the survey there were no turns, banks, climbs, or descents. The engine speeds, EPR setting, and vibration at the start of the survey were: Left Engine Right Engine EPR 1.58 1.58 N1 % 86.5 86.3 N2 % 88.1 87.9 LP EVM 0.18 0.14 HP EVM 0.01 0.05 Total fuel at the time of the survey was 13700 lbs. The cabin pressurization was at a differential of 10.11 psi during the cabin noise survey. The SAT was -52°C and the pressure from the left and right ECS pats 20 psi each. Job #AC-08-45 1 GAC AcousticsNibration FS-AN-08-45 5/2/2008 EFTA_R1_00013025 EFTA01734638 0u1fstream A GENERAL DYNAMICS COMPANY MEMORANDUM Data Acquisition Cockpit noise levels were measured at a point midway between pilot and co-pilot at ear level. The passenger cabin on Aircraft 5176 is defined as seated positions from Window 3 through to the aft lavatory door. Noise levels at window positions and other areas were measured at the seated head height of an occupant, including the lavatories, except for the vestibule and galley. The passenger cabin door, the aft lavatory door, the baggage door, and all interior doors and curtains were closed during the survey. A recording of sound pressure was taken at each location using a B&K 2250 Sound Level Meter. Data consisted of an eight-second recording of un-weighted sound pressure at each position. The time needed to complete the cabin noise survey was approximately 20 minutes. Data Reduction The recorded data was reduced using a B&K 2250 Sound Level Meter. Eight-second averages were taken at each measurement position over a one-third-octave band center frequency range from 25 Hz to 10,000 Hz. Both one-third octave and octave band data were generated. The A-weighted noise levels were calculated from the one-third octave band data. Speech Interference Levels (SIL's) were calculated from the octave band data. Results The cabin noise data shows the passenger cabin averages at 70.4dB (A) and 46.3 dB SIL. The engine fan tone is above 93.0 dB in the private aft cabin in the Window 7 area. A fan trim balance was recommended to reduce the engine noise in the private aft cabin. The fan trim balance was performed on the right engine but there was no opportunity to acquire cabin noise data after the balance. Aircraft 5176 satisfies all GAC acoustic requirements for cabin noise surveys. Attached are the detailed summary table and chart of the sound measurement at each location in the aircraft.
