[00:21:09] you know we applied for this permit like [00:21:13] five months ago [00:21:14] [Music] [00:21:16] God had it planned that we would be [00:21:18] right here right now [00:21:21] this isn't an accident we're not trying [00:21:23] to capitalize on anything God told us he [00:21:27] planned this since the foundations of [00:21:29] the Earth [00:21:30] for us to be here in a moment of Crisis [00:21:33] and I was thinking [00:21:35] one of the most powerful prayers [00:21:38] I feel like that we could ever pray as [00:21:40] the people of God [00:21:42] is to Echo the prayer of Jehoshaphat [00:21:45] remember in the Old Testament [00:21:48] he was surrounded by the midianite Army [00:21:50] an army that was so vast he couldn't see [00:21:53] the end of him and he knew he didn't [00:21:55] have the resources or the ability to get [00:21:58] a victory he didn't know what to do [00:22:02] and he prayed the most powerful prayer [00:22:04] before he did the unthinkable [00:22:08] he said God [00:22:10] we don't know what to do but our eyes [00:22:12] are on you [00:22:14] can we just say that here today from [00:22:16] Nashville can we say that so all of [00:22:18] America [00:22:19] can you hear it say God we don't know [00:22:21] what to do [00:22:23] but our eyes are on you [00:22:29] and then Jehoshaphat sent out the [00:22:31] worshipers [00:22:32] ahead of the army [00:22:35] crazy right [00:22:37] the first time it ever happened and then [00:22:39] it happened again and again throughout [00:22:41] scripture but it was the first time when [00:22:43] worship was sent ahead and I feel like [00:22:45] today God has sent us he's commissioned [00:22:48] us as worshipers to go ahead [00:22:52] to change the atmosphere over this city [00:22:55] to bring healing to facilitate a place [00:22:58] where God can have an encounter with his [00:23:01] people amen [00:23:02] so this is why we are here today [00:23:06] who wants to have an encounter with God [00:23:09] come on this is why we're here I want to [00:23:11] invite somebody really special a father [00:23:14] a pastor of the city Pastor Steve Berger [00:23:17] can we just welcome him [00:23:24] foreign [00:23:26] [Music] [00:23:33] [Music] [00:23:34] to receive from your spirit Lord we pray [00:23:37] in the name of Jesus that you would [00:23:40] reveal truth To Us by your spirit and [00:23:42] that that truth would be believed Lord [00:23:45] that we would experience your nearness [00:23:47] as you promised us in the scripture that [00:23:51] hope would be received and acted on in [00:23:55] the matchless name of Jesus who is the [00:23:57] life-giving Son of God and God's [00:24:00] expectant people said amen and amen [00:24:04] well I'm here today beloved to share [00:24:07] with you [00:24:08] as a father and as a pastor who knows [00:24:11] what it's like to experience [00:24:13] the grief and sorrow of having a child [00:24:17] go to heaven [00:24:21] I'm here to share words [00:24:24] of life [00:24:26] from God's word [00:24:28] I'm not here to give shallow empty [00:24:30] promises I'm not here to be flippant or [00:24:33] casual in any way I'm I'm sharing from [00:24:36] my own experience my own grief but more [00:24:40] importantly my own hope [00:24:42] Words of Life from the word of God [00:24:46] the great em bounds you pastored just [00:24:49] down the road during the Civil War here [00:24:51] in the city of Franklin I want you to [00:24:54] listen to these words that embound [00:24:55] shared about heaven [00:24:57] he said the fact of Heaven exists all [00:25:01] glorious and enduring [00:25:03] but this fact of Heaven now listen to [00:25:06] this but this fact of Heaven must enter [00:25:09] into our Morning Experience [00:25:13] and then of this experience hope is born [00:25:21] I want to share with you four facts of [00:25:23] Heaven over the next few minutes there's [00:25:25] obviously many more facts of heaven but [00:25:27] I want to give you four today [00:25:29] because these are these are facts about [00:25:32] heaven that need to enter into our [00:25:35] hearts as followers of Jesus as people [00:25:38] who are looking for Hope and answers so [00:25:41] that hope can be born in US [00:25:44] hope doesn't come from circumstances [00:25:46] hope comes from Christ hope comes from [00:25:49] the word of God hope comes from the [00:25:51] promise of God and if we're looking [00:25:53] anywhere but to Christ especially in [00:25:56] times like this now or times like this [00:25:58] in the future we're going to miss out I [00:26:01] want to encourage you to be a people [00:26:03] that have eternal perspective [00:26:05] that have your eyes Colossians chapter 3 [00:26:08] verse 1 set on things above where Christ [00:26:11] is at the right hand of God and not on [00:26:13] the things of this Earth if we're going [00:26:15] to be a hopeful people our eyes and our [00:26:17] ears have to be tuned and turned toward [00:26:19] heaven without question so first of all [00:26:23] beloved Heaven is a place [00:26:26] remember this that is prepared for us by [00:26:31] Jesus himself John chapter 14 verses 1 [00:26:35] through 3. he said I'm going to prepare [00:26:37] a place for you Jesus himself has [00:26:40] prepared heaven for every single one of [00:26:43] his followers and because Jesus has [00:26:46] prepared the place he also said that I [00:26:49] will come and receive you to myself when [00:26:53] it's our time to go there a prepared [00:26:56] place a place to be received welcomed by [00:27:00] Jesus himself and because of that he [00:27:03] said I don't want you to be troubled [00:27:05] about passing into heaven I don't want [00:27:07] you to be troubled for your own life or [00:27:09] for the lives of people that you know [00:27:11] and love don't be troubled don't be [00:27:14] fearful don't be distressed about it I [00:27:18] prepared it for you I'm going to welcome [00:27:20] you myself [00:27:21] therefore don't be afraid and don't be [00:27:24] distressed so I I want to say with all [00:27:28] sensitivity with all compassion and with [00:27:31] no flippancy at all that Halle [00:27:35] that Evelyn [00:27:37] that William [00:27:38] that's Cynthia that Catherine and that [00:27:42] Mike were welcomed into their prepared [00:27:46] place by the Son of God himself [00:27:49] therefore beloved let's not let trouble [00:27:52] anxiety and worry overshadow the hope of [00:27:56] Heaven let's let the fact of Heaven [00:27:58] enter into our morning [00:28:00] so that [00:28:02] hope can be born [00:28:04] secondly Heaven is a place I love this [00:28:08] where life Reigns and Death Dies [00:28:13] John chapter 11 verses 25 and 26 at a [00:28:17] funeral at a sensitive time Jesus said [00:28:21] I'm the resurrection and the life he who [00:28:25] believes in me though he may die yet [00:28:29] shall he live and he who lives and [00:28:31] Believes In Me listen to this shall [00:28:34] never die and then he said to the crowd [00:28:38] do you believe this do you believe it [00:28:41] listen to me beloved life has the final [00:28:45] word over every single child of God life [00:28:50] has the final word Resurrection has the [00:28:53] final word [00:28:55] so we need to hear the word of the Lord [00:28:58] our believing ones are alive in heaven [00:29:02] right now [00:29:04] they're not dead they are in Heaven's [00:29:08] life only atmosphere and surroundings if [00:29:13] you want to know the only thing that's [00:29:15] dead in Heaven it's death itself [00:29:18] death went to heaven and died because it [00:29:21] had no place in presence of Resurrection [00:29:24] in life whose name is Jesus [00:29:31] ended his statement there in verse 26 [00:29:33] and he said Do you believe this [00:29:37] you believe I'm Resurrection in life why [00:29:39] did he say Do you believe this because [00:29:40] let me tell you friends what you believe [00:29:42] about life and death is going to [00:29:45] determine how you mourn [00:29:48] if you believe what Jesus said you'll be [00:29:50] able to mourn with hope if you reject [00:29:53] what Jesus said you mourn with [00:29:55] hopelessness I want to encourage you to [00:29:57] mourn with hope because Jesus overcame [00:30:00] death hell and the grave he is [00:30:03] resurrection and he is life he conquered [00:30:06] it all [00:30:08] another thing I would say to you quickly [00:30:10] about this passage is this [00:30:12] Jesus said to those that were there [00:30:14] grieving he said take me to where you've [00:30:18] laid Lazarus take me there what is this [00:30:21] about this is about Jesus saying to [00:30:24] those who were there grieving take me to [00:30:26] the place where you think death had the [00:30:30] final word over your beloved Lazarus and [00:30:33] watch me speak Resurrection Life into [00:30:36] what you think has been the final word [00:30:39] declared over your brother and friend [00:30:42] friends in our grieving and in our [00:30:44] mourning we have to take Jesus [00:30:46] invitation we have to take him by the [00:30:48] hand and take him to that place where [00:30:51] we've been devastated and broken and [00:30:54] disillusioned thinking that death has [00:30:56] the final word has let him speak to us [00:31:00] and to our situation in Jesus name take [00:31:03] him up on his invitation [00:31:06] Heaven is a place beloved that's [00:31:09] exceedingly better than Earth that's [00:31:11] just not good lyrics for a country song [00:31:14] it's the truth of the Gospel listen to [00:31:17] what Paul says in Philippians chapter 1 [00:31:19] verse 21 he said that heaven is far [00:31:22] better exceedingly better and so for our [00:31:25] loved ones you are there let's not [00:31:27] minimize Heaven let's make sure we [00:31:28] understand how incredibly awesome that [00:31:31] it actually is Philippians 3 21 we get [00:31:35] brand new bodies when we go to heaven [00:31:37] just like Jesus resurrected body no more [00:31:41] wounds no more Brokenness no more [00:31:43] sickness no disease only Resurrection [00:31:46] Life and Power in our new bodies that we [00:31:49] get in heaven Revelation 21 3 and 4 we [00:31:53] get to see God face to face in heaven No [00:31:56] More Death No More Tears no more sorrow [00:31:58] no more pain Revelation 21 27 no more [00:32:04] sin [00:32:05] Luke 6 21 Jesus said Heaven is a place [00:32:09] of laughter the scripture says it is a [00:32:13] place of exceeding Joy [00:32:17] it is exceedingly glorious it is [00:32:21] exceedingly wonderful let that truth [00:32:23] penetrate your heart as you mourn and [00:32:26] celebrate our beloved who are there in [00:32:28] his presence right now it's why C.S [00:32:31] Lewis said Joyce the serious business of [00:32:34] Heaven [00:32:36] finally beloved [00:32:37] Heaven is a place where we get reunited [00:32:40] with our loved ones [00:32:42] first Thessalonians 4 17-18 says very [00:32:46] clearly there is coming a day when we [00:32:49] will be reunited with our loved ones and [00:32:51] with our Christ and we shall be together [00:32:54] forever never ever to be separated again [00:32:58] and it is because of these facts and [00:33:01] many others about heaven that Paul says [00:33:04] therefore Comfort one another with these [00:33:07] words [00:33:09] Comfort one another with the truth of [00:33:11] heaven with the facts of Heaven Let It [00:33:14] penetrate your experience and let it [00:33:15] give you hope in the midst of turmoil we [00:33:18] don't grieve like those who have no hope [00:33:20] we grieve we mourn but we grieve and [00:33:23] mourn with hope because we've allowed [00:33:25] heaven to penetrate our experience [00:33:28] lastly D.L Moody said these words [00:33:32] someday he said you will read in the [00:33:34] papers that D.L Moody is dead [00:33:37] don't believe a word of it at that [00:33:41] moment I shall be more alive than I am [00:33:43] now I shall have gone up higher that is [00:33:46] all I will have a body listen to me I [00:33:49] will have a body that death cannot touch [00:33:52] that sin cannot taint a body made like [00:33:55] Jesus glorious [00:33:57] resurrected body and so beloved in your [00:34:00] darkest hours of mourning and grief let [00:34:03] the facts of Heaven enter into your [00:34:05] grieving experience and comfort one [00:34:08] another give hope to one another Speak [00:34:11] Life to one another and let's watch the [00:34:14] Power of the resurrected Jesus bring [00:34:16] hope and healing to the city of [00:34:18] Nashville the United States of you're working [00:46:24] away where there seems to be no way [00:46:32] [Music] [00:46:44] ever since the tragedy a few days ago [00:46:47] Covenant Christian School I was just [00:46:50] praying into what we were supposed to do [00:46:53] at this event because I knew that it was [00:46:55] a god-ordained moment [00:46:58] my God I don't know how you're gonna do [00:47:00] it [00:47:01] so evil and demonic [00:47:05] God how are you going to turn this [00:47:06] around and the Lord began to speak to me [00:47:10] about different situations and I [00:47:11] remembered [00:47:13] one of my really good friends Pastor Rob [00:47:16] McCoy from California [00:47:19] who's here with us tonight all the way [00:47:21] from California and I really felt it was [00:47:24] important for him to come having been a [00:47:27] pastor and a mayor [00:47:28] that's walked through what this city [00:47:30] just walked through and has come out on [00:47:33] the other side [00:47:34] sharing the testimony of what God did in [00:47:37] his City I felt like it was important [00:47:39] for him to be here and share with us and [00:47:41] so would you just welcome Pastor Rob [00:47:43] McCoy [00:47:50] well I wish I wasn't invited because of [00:47:53] my experience and I heard for all of you [00:47:57] it happened on [00:47:58] November 7 2018 I was the mayor Pro tem [00:48:02] of the city [00:48:03] in less than three weeks later I'd be [00:48:05] the mayor of the city [00:48:07] I just been re-elected in a very [00:48:09] contentious election on November 6th [00:48:13] and my opponent uh the two of us were [00:48:16] going at it [00:48:18] and I tried to avoid the conflict and [00:48:20] the heaviness but it was all over the [00:48:22] paper and it was it was a tough battle [00:48:25] and we weren't talking to each other [00:48:28] and at 11 18 [00:48:31] on November [00:48:33] 7th gunman went in [00:48:36] and shot 12 of our young people [00:48:39] and then took his life [00:48:41] officer helis who was a friend was shot [00:48:43] by a CHP officer who was trying to stop [00:48:45] the gunman and firing blind and was [00:48:48] killed by one of his own [00:48:50] to the kids that were killed were from [00:48:52] my congregation and I officiated their [00:48:54] Memorial Services I was with every [00:48:56] parent when they were notified that [00:48:57] their child was one of the victims was [00:49:00] with them all through the night [00:49:02] I kept telling them [00:49:03] hope for the best and prepare for the [00:49:05] worse you can't prepare for what [00:49:07] the families have just gone through in [00:49:09] Nashville [00:49:11] I'm sorry [00:49:13] evil has visited your city [00:49:15] but I have to tell you [00:49:17] the way out [00:49:20] you won't like it [00:49:23] it's forgiveness and when I say [00:49:26] forgiveness don't misunderstand [00:49:28] I'm not saying forget you can't forget [00:49:30] what's happened and what what this [00:49:32] perpetrator did [00:49:34] forgiveness is putting the consequences [00:49:36] of what they did in the hands of the [00:49:37] Lord so you can move on with your life [00:49:41] let me give you an example from [00:49:43] scripture [00:49:45] there is a man named ahithophel who was [00:49:48] one of David's counselors and it was [00:49:49] said of a hithervel when he spoke it was [00:49:51] though the mouth of God himself were [00:49:53] speaking [00:49:54] he was a convert to Judaism he was a [00:49:57] gillianite [00:49:58] and David trusted this man [00:50:00] well what's interesting is his son [00:50:02] David's son Absalom rebelled against [00:50:04] David [00:50:05] and and David was old at this point and [00:50:07] he didn't think he could contend with [00:50:09] Absalom and Absalom had the heart of the [00:50:10] people the city and he was a spoiled kid [00:50:15] and David's heart was was Heavy when he [00:50:17] found the news that a hitherfell was [00:50:19] siding with Absalom [00:50:21] David turned to hushi the archive [00:50:23] another one of his advisors he said look [00:50:25] if you want to help me you got to get to [00:50:27] the castle or to the palace and thwart [00:50:30] the Council of ahithophel because if [00:50:32] Absalom listens to him I'm finished [00:50:35] and so hushi the archive gets there [00:50:39] ahithophel gives his counsel [00:50:42] to Absalom and he says this is what you [00:50:44] need to do king [00:50:45] you need to violate David's concubines [00:50:47] on the roof and then you need to let me [00:50:49] in a handful of men go and kill David [00:50:51] I'll do it by myself but you can't give [00:50:53] him any time [00:50:55] an Absalom listen to that and then [00:50:57] hushai came up and gave counsel he said [00:50:59] his counsel is no good what you need to [00:51:00] do [00:51:01] is allow the people to gather behind you [00:51:03] and and he started to appeal to the ego [00:51:05] of Absalom with his Fabio hair [00:51:09] an Absalom took the Council of ahushi [00:51:12] the archite and here's why and listen to [00:51:14] me [00:51:14] the scripture says God pay attention God [00:51:18] thwarted he he stopped the Council of [00:51:22] ahithophel God stopped it [00:51:24] all right now pause [00:51:27] when a hittheville realizes his counsel [00:51:29] is not received [00:51:31] he goes home puts his house in order and [00:51:33] hangs himself you're like well that's a [00:51:35] creepy story [00:51:37] there's more to it [00:51:40] [Music] [00:51:41] David committed two sins for which there [00:51:43] was no sacrifice in all of Israel [00:51:46] adultery and murder [00:51:49] a hittheville had a son his name was a [00:51:51] lion [00:51:53] lion was one of David's Mighty Men he [00:51:55] had received basically the Medal of [00:51:56] Honor in David's Army [00:51:59] and eliam had a daughter [00:52:02] and his daughter's name was Bathsheba [00:52:04] you see David committed adultery with [00:52:08] ahithophel's granddaughter and murdered [00:52:10] ahiththeville's grandson-in-law [00:52:13] and you know what a hit the fell wanted [00:52:16] Revenge [00:52:18] and here's the point I don't get [00:52:21] God thwarted a hit the Fell's Council [00:52:23] and David's the murderer and David's the [00:52:25] liar and David's the adulterer [00:52:27] a hit the fell served David his whole [00:52:29] life his son was one of his mighty men [00:52:31] he violated his granddaughter he [00:52:34] murdered his grandson-in-law God you got [00:52:37] the wrong guy [00:52:39] why did you let David off [00:52:42] because Mercy triumphs over judgment [00:52:45] David understood the heart of the Lord [00:52:47] when we're honest with God he's merciful [00:52:49] with us and the one thing God doesn't [00:52:51] tolerate from his children is [00:52:53] unforgiveness ahithophel couldn't let it [00:52:56] go and he wanted to do to David's [00:52:58] concubines what David had done to his [00:53:00] granddaughter and he wanted to murder [00:53:01] David just like he murdered his [00:53:03] grandson-in-law [00:53:05] that's not ours vengeance is mine saith [00:53:08] the Lord this nation needs healing and [00:53:11] this city needs a touch of God and [00:53:14] Christ has come to set us free from the [00:53:16] prison of unforgiveness [00:53:18] and so may the Lord give you that [00:53:20] compassion [00:53:22] but listen [00:53:23] compassion doesn't mean embracing evil [00:53:26] and calling it good [00:53:30] compassion means standing your ground [00:53:31] and standing for truth [00:53:33] and not being afraid of the consequences [00:53:35] of Truth [00:53:37] listen Christians we're not going to be [00:53:39] liked at some point because [00:53:42] if they hated him they're going to [00:53:44] despise us [00:53:47] but we we've already we're not fighting [00:53:49] for victory we're fighting from Victory [00:53:50] and we're more than conquerors and God [00:53:52] hasn't given us a spirit of fear the [00:53:54] fear of man is a snare [00:53:58] that night we did a vigil in our city [00:54:02] and everyone showed up and I told all [00:54:04] the political entities left and right [00:54:07] who wanted to come and capitalize and [00:54:09] profit from our grief [00:54:10] we kept them away and we had the city [00:54:13] gather at the Civic Arts Plaza we did a [00:54:15] worship service that night [00:54:16] and as I was sitting in the front of the [00:54:18] foyer standing there greeting all the [00:54:20] citizens of the community coming [00:54:22] there was my opponent that ran against [00:54:24] me for the council [00:54:26] she came up and she hugged me [00:54:29] she said I saw you on the news last [00:54:30] night asking the people of the nation to [00:54:32] pray [00:54:33] she started crying and she wouldn't let [00:54:34] go and she says I wish she had been [00:54:36] there when my daughter had been murdered [00:54:38] I didn't even know that had happened to [00:54:39] her daughter [00:54:41] you have the opportunity to minister [00:54:43] deeply to those around you [00:54:46] God knows what he's doing didn't catch [00:54:48] him by surprise we're in a world of [00:54:50] Fallen people there's evil [00:54:52] but you were more than a conqueror and [00:54:53] God appointed you for such a time as [00:54:55] this [00:54:56] let God use you [00:54:59] don't [00:55:00] be afraid of the consequences of Truth [00:55:06] that's the hope for this city this state [00:55:09] and this nation [00:55:10] the last thing I share with you is this [00:55:13] we just went through two years of [00:55:15] deception they lied to us [00:55:19] and the problem is and I tell this to [00:55:21] people how many of you took the shot [00:55:22] because you believed in its efficacy and [00:55:23] how many of you took it because you [00:55:24] didn't want to lose your job [00:55:26] and if you're a Christian and and the [00:55:28] second is true for you that's called [00:55:29] deception it wasn't Hitler and his [00:55:31] victims it was Hitler in an entire [00:55:33] nation that was afraid of the [00:55:35] consequences of standing for the truth [00:55:37] we are in a battle [00:55:38] the truth is being despised and we must [00:55:41] stand [00:55:43] Jesus is the way the truth and the life [00:55:47] you'll know the truth and the truth will [00:55:49] set you free God bless you [00:56:00] and bringing people together and [00:56:02] I his family I just [01:20:46] want to pray over him we were just just [01:20:48] so you all know we were in Little Rock [01:20:50] last night [01:20:52] just a testimony of what we feel called [01:20:54] to do in this season we were in Little [01:20:56] Rock in front of the Capitol and there [01:20:58] was tornadoes going around and the [01:21:00] people in Little Rock and the government [01:21:01] were like why don't y'all just come and [01:21:02] worship inside [01:21:03] so we went inside just like we own the [01:21:06] place and um [01:21:08] all of the AIDS for all of the Senators [01:21:11] the governor everybody started walking [01:21:13] out of their offices at the sound of [01:21:15] worship and we had a good old fashioned [01:21:18] Arkansas worship service in the a stand for their City [01:43:23] fear is the thing that we have to [01:43:26] we have to watch for in these days that [01:43:28] that as the church Mourns as we grieve [01:43:31] with hope [01:43:32] that we can't be overcome by fear [01:43:36] the word says in the last days that that [01:43:39] men's Hearts will fail them for fear [01:43:43] and I'm reminded of a story where [01:43:46] we're a religious man named Jairus [01:43:50] in his worst day [01:43:53] he didn't fall back on his religious [01:43:55] training he didn't fall back on on the [01:43:58] people he knew but he ran to Jesus [01:44:02] and he found him and he said if you will [01:44:05] come with me everything's gonna be all [01:44:08] right [01:44:10] and Jesus said let's go [01:44:13] and as they were going they walked [01:44:15] through [01:44:16] a city and a huge group of people [01:44:19] probably much like this started to come [01:44:22] around Jesus [01:44:25] you've got to know in who's Humanity the [01:44:27] Jairus was going what are we doing God [01:44:29] come on we're my pain my suffering my [01:44:33] heartache come on [01:44:37] Jesus ministers to a woman with an issue [01:44:39] of blood and [01:44:40] and at that very moment in a crowded [01:44:44] place [01:44:45] what was only fear actualized and became [01:44:49] the worst day of jairus's life [01:44:53] somebody came to him and said Jairus [01:44:55] don't bother the teacher anymore [01:44:59] your daughter's gone [01:45:02] and at that moment [01:45:05] you've got to think there's a crowd and [01:45:07] dust and and everybody's at Fever Pitch [01:45:11] and Jesus locks eyes with Jairus and he [01:45:14] yells a prophetic word that I believe [01:45:17] transcends 2 000 years to the city of [01:45:20] Nashville today [01:45:22] Jairus do not fear only believe [01:45:31] and right now beloved we've got to [01:45:33] believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be [01:45:36] everything we've ever thought he was [01:45:39] that he indeed is everything he says he [01:45:44] is [01:45:45] and that he is the very place where our [01:45:49] fear can be turned upside down with [01:45:52] belief [01:45:54] and so
